About us

ABC Hats was inspired by the national Welcome Blanket project. A group of knitters and crocheters in Olympia Washington started meeting in 2025, working on yarn projects, trading yarn and ideas. Over the year we’ve made over a dozen Welcome Blankets which are being gifted to local immigrant families. We’ve also displayed our blankets in the Olympia City Hall.

We are now making hats for babies and toddlers. The birth of a child, always a precious occasion, carries even more meaning for immigrant parents. Many immigrants have worked hard, as our grandparents did, to come to this country and provide better lives for their children. We celebrate with them, and honor the birth of a new American Citizen with a handmade hat. We hope that you too will be inspired to join in this act of creative generosity.
